Batak Dam is the sixth largest dam in Bulgaria, located in the western Rhodopes. On the west coast of the Batak is located Tsigov Chark. And on the other shore is the Dnoto resort, relatively quiet and calm from Tsigov Chark.
Batak Dam is also known as the “Sea of the Rhodopes”. It is a preferred place for rest in the mountains, in the midst of coziness and tranquility, with the possibility of fishing all year round. Perch, mullet, walleye, redfin, as well as carp and catfish swim in the waters of the dam. The surrounding area is extremely rich in flora and fauna with quite beautiful places, suitable for a picnic and a walk around the mountains. In addition, the combination with reserves and water resources are ideal conditions for the development of mountain tourism and sport fishing.
Another charming place next to the Batak Dam, an extremely convenient place for fishing, is 200-300 m above sea level, from the first of which is a fabulous little bay. In the spring, water flows from a ravine at its end, coming from the forest. This fabulous bay is located in the immediate vicinity under the parking lot of the “Dnoto” hotel. There are many hotels and villas on the territory of Batak Dam. Tourists who want to visit the dam can stay in one of the cute guest houses in Tsigov Chark in a cozy and wonderful atmosphere. In the immediate vicinity are the beautiful peaks of the Rhodope Mountains – Golyama Syutka peak / 2186 m above sea level / and Batashki snow peak / 2082 m above sea level /. Around the dam are located 3 of the 17 biosphere reserves in the country – Mantaritsa with its centuries-old spruce forests, Dupkata with its white pine and red deer forests and Kupena with its beautiful karst formations.
During the winter season, the Batak Dam resort is an attractive place for connoisseurs of winter sports. There is a 1500 meter long ski slope suitable for beginners in the lower part. And the upper part of the track is steeper, where there is also a ski lift. The two fully equipped slopes provide ideal skiing conditions. Near the dam there is parking for bicycles and restaurants that offer delicious feasts and hot drinks. And the surrounding nature brings additional enjoyment of rest and relaxation.
There are many historical and cultural attractions nearby in the area, located in the nearby towns of Peshtera, Velingrad, Batak and Rakitovo.
